Nurturing Our Whanau, Whenua and Awa Together
Meremere Puutaiao Society Inc. is committed to building strong community ties through Rangatahi education programs and environmental guardianship. We champion kaitiakitanga, inspiring pride and responsibility for our whenua and awa, while enriching lives with vibrant, collaborative community projects.
We are a small, diverse group, contextualising Mātauranga Māori within our vision, goals and practices.
How we shape our behaviour can be found in our pūrākau and whakataukī, which speak to the relationships that bind us to the natural world and to our role as kaitiaki. The narratives we share, the values and meanings they carry, shape who we are, what we value, and the choices we make. This awareness ripples and influences those near us, and further afield.
Our responsibility as kaitiaki requires us to ‘keep well’ the mutual relationships between people, nature and our planet. We are committed to regenerating and protecting the mauri of our treasured taonga – te whānau, te awa, te whenua, te hāpori for present and future generations.
